Idris Smith

Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Idris started playing tennis at 6 and has over 20 years’ experience in the tennis industry. As a junior he was coached by French Open doubles champion Victor Amaya, Idris was ranked as high as top 10 nationally and competed at the Junior Orange Bowl and Junior Davis Cup in Michigan. He competed for the University of Detroit Mercy (Division I) on tennis scholarship and was named team Captain and MVP, and professionally he played on the Florida Men’s Open circuit and USTA Satellite Circuit in 1996.

Idris served as the High Performance Director of Tennis at Wheaton Sport Center the last 5 years, and saw a record number of players qualify for the Illinois State Championship, with one of the boys teams finishing top 10 in the state. He has coached four #1 players in the US Nationally, three Gold Ball recipients that have won USTA National Championships. He served as board member of Junior Development USTA North Carolina, PTR Professional, ITF certified coach, USPTA Elite Professional, and USTA High Performance coach. Idris lives in Tulsa along with son Vaughn who trains at TTA.
